Description / Comments

The protagonist gets whisked away to an isekai into the middle of the forest on a mountain with no way to defend himself, surrounded by tons of crazy isekai monsters that could kill him at any moment; In fact soon after he arrives a bear almost eats him alive only to be “saved” by a massive dangerous Slime, that spares him for some unknown reason. However after a long while of walking through the forest he finally makes it to civilization, only to immediately be locked up in prison for having the “appearance of a demon” (black hair/eyes) and being unable to speak their language. Thankfully the Brute of a knightess whisks him off to the temple to get a spell cast on him that allows him to temporarily communicate in the presence of someone who can detect lies, where he is finally able to explain his situation and hopefully start to actually live in this new world that he finds himself in.

The protagonist is written as this kind of lawful neutral sociopath who matches his demeanor and personality depending on his surroundings in order to best fit in and survive a peaceful life without conflict. He has no skills of his own outside of the gift-of-gab/talk-no-jutsu meanwhile everybody else is excessively strong and could snap him like a twig; on top of him being largely unaffected by recovery or mindcontrol magic due to his excessive lack of mana to begin with to manipulate. As a result the only way for him to survive in this world is to fully adapt to every situation, fully comprehend everybody’s thoughts/actions, and try to figure out a plan to come out unscathed using whatever he has at hand. He’s chuuni isekai batman.

As a result of this rather strange character being the protagonist everybody else in the work is kind of strangely simplistic, outside of a few key characters like the King, largely because the more characters of “high” intelligence like the protag you add to the character the harder it is to reason about any event that happens. I feel like the author does a decent enough job of balancing it out but a lot of the antagonists tend suffer as a result of this balance, and even most of the protagonist’s companions are little more than simple charicatures of certain ideals.

There’s only a minimal amount of insight into the world at large thus far in the manga adaptation and i’m not sure if it will ever reach a point where it will matter. Most of the story revolves around the protagonist trying to have a slow peaceful life while he keeps getting wrapped up in larger and larger conspiracies where he’s force to battle it out with just his wits and also his super overpowered companions. There’s tiny insights here and there into the various political factions, why magic isn’t as useful as it could be due to plentiful counter-measures, and so on, however the main driving force behind the work is setting up the 4(?) demon lords and how they came about. The work is clearly setting up the protagonist to eventually go toe to toe with them while not paying as much attention to other aspects since they don’t matter as much for the kind of story it is trying to tell.

Personally I really enjoyed reading this work since it’s simply fun to read through. I do mention a few possible negatives above that might cause someone to like the work less, but I still feel like a vast majority of people would still enjoy the work overall.

The artist gave birth to a baby in late 2022 so the manga was on hiatus until they could get back into manga again, and then somehow for possibly the first time ever it actually came out of hiatus again in mid 2025!!
