When the protag was a middle schooler she wrote fanfiction of herself in another world as the perfect mary sue protag surrounded by ikemen who saves the world and is loved by everyone, in preparation for the day she randomly gets isekai’d into another world. She then forgets about that work and even the “will” she left behind in her closet until all of a sudden one day she gets run over by a truck, and actually isekai’d into the work she wrote as a middle schooler. Except she didn’t get isekai’d into the perfect heroine based on herself, she is the despicable villainess that gets in the heroine’s way instead and essentially sentenced to death by the time she gets reincarnated. Now she has to figure out a way to live peacefully in the world she created while remembering only a few of the details, and as the “wrong” character!
Honestly the first few volumes just kind of has really poor writing, almost possibly intentionally considering that the main plot is that an OL gets reincarnated into the work she wrote as a chuuni middle schooler complete with plot holes and whatever she was horny about at the time. A rather standard Villainess work about being trapped in a novel but unable to fully go against your fate, but still attempting to steer the story into a better direction regardless. Although it’s a rather insane story since it mixes in BL/GL/Het/Bromance together in a very weird blend.
However around vol7 or so I started to really vibe with the work since it started to actually evolve all of the characters past their initial “templates” and let the protagonist (villainess) really break free into her own character. Then I read vol9 and was actually impressed by the work and started to enjoy it a lot. Would rec to any villainess enjoyers out there.
Also it’s kind of weird that every volume has extensive side stories in it featuring weird “what-if” scenarios, often of alternate universes where everybody is gender swapped or in modern times. Usually you only get those after the finale of the story or whatever, but these run alongside the chapters they are parodying and almost kind of break up the flow a bit that I almost don’t want to read them. But they also help recontextualize certain events and actions of characters by simply swapping the genders due to innate gender bias which is kind of interesting in itself.
